About Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are the final test of new treatment ideas before they can be deemed safe and effective for patients. Our knowledge of the functions of the human body and its cells and organs continues to advance, but how safely apply this knowledge to treat disease is not always obvious. Thus clinical trials are designed to test new ideas in real patients in a very controlled fashion and with as little risk as possible. If you have one of the diseases for which a trial is ongoing at the center, you may be interested in enrolling in a trial or in learning more about the trial. Other clinical research studies are aimed at improving our knowledge of diseases. Specific trials and the enrollment criteria are listed here: Active Trials

For further information about the nature of clinical trials, an excellent information site is at the NIH's ClinicalTrials.gov site. A specific page at that site for understanding clinical trials here .
