Clinical Services

 
Evaluation and management of asthma and for a wide range of allergic or lung diseases are offered at the Center. In addition to the full range of diagnostic laboratory tests and imaging studies available through Duke University Health System , a number of services (listed below) are available at the Asthma, Allergy, and Airways Center.
 
Pulmonary Function Testing:
  • Spirometry with flow-volume loop
  • Spirometry pre and post bronchodilator
  • Maximum voluntary ventilation
  • Sighing (slow) vital capacity
  • Body plethysmography
  • Lung volume by nitrogen wash-out
  • Diffusion capacity
  • Methacholine challenge
  • Exercise challenge spirometry
  • Exercise challenge with laryngoscopy
  • Chest radiography
  • Negative inspiratory force
  • Exhaled nitric oxide (FENO)
 
Special procedures are available for infants and young children:
  • Crying vital capacity
  • End tidal carbon dioxide
  • Impulse oscillometry
 
Allergy testing and treatment
  • Skin testing for inhalants, pollens, molds, and foods
  • In vitro testing for IgE to foods and other allergens
  • Drug allergy evaluation
  • Preparation of allergen immunotherapy vaccines
  • Allergen immunotherapy
