How To Use Nasal Sprays

In order for nasal spray medications to work, they must be properly administered. Incorrect use may cause nose bleeds, irritation and failure to achieve benefits from the drug. The following are instructions on how to use nasal spray medications correctly.

1.  Gently blow your nose
2.  Shake the bottle of nasal spray medication and remove the cap
3.  Insert the end of pump into the nostril, pointing the tip up and slightly outward toward the corner of the eye on that side of  the nose. It is important that the tip not point toward the center of your nose as this will cause irritation and bleeding.
4.  Use your other hand to close the nostril not receiving medication
5.  Squeeze the pump to administer the medication while breathing in slowly through nose
6.  Repeat for other nostril
